Addictions

In the last few days, there has been a few things going on between me and my favorite coffee company. I'll put it in bullet format mostly because I haven't used bullets in a while.

  • I am sending an email to complain about a certain Starbucks location near me. Even though I get my order messed up EVERY SINGLE TIME I go there, I still go there on a semi-regular basis because they are the nearest one with a drive-thru. I order a Cinnamon latte. What I get is either a Cinnamon Dolce latte, or a latte with no syrup, or a latte with no syrup with cinnamon powder sprinkled on top (eww). Or I go in there, order a "triple venti cinnamon non-fat latte", and invariably get the response "Is that a Cinnamon Dolce?" Listen bitch, did I say dolce? No, I did not! Which brings me to the sad news that

  • I was informed by my regular Starbucks' staff (whom I LOVE with pink puffy hearts, because they ALWAYS get it right the first time) that the regular Cinnamon flavored syrup is being discontinued at the end of this month. Apparently I'm the only one who ever orders a regular Cinnamon flavored drink. Stupid Dolce! The staff recommended I buy a bottle or two to have at home (another reason I love them).

  • I retrieved the mail and found a padded envelope from Starbucks. Upon opening, I discovered a lovely little thank you for drinking my way into debt by way of my favorite crack house:

Reward

The workers have returned to finish the basement and other areas of the house that were in various stages of, uh, finishment.

With the workers return, so has the noise and the dust returned. The drywall dust. That I wipe off of our black countertop three times a day.

But I'm not complaining. Just stating an observation.

Ok, there are two main reasons I haven't been on here lately.

1. I've been lost in the world of The Sims 2 (one of my Sims with the Family aspiration wanted, and had, 10 kids.)
2. I have the cold from hell.

However, last weekend we skipped out on the heat and went to The Museum of Science and Industry. We had a ton of fun and we even checked out the awesome Body Worlds exhibit. For those of you who want to know, I didn't find it morbid or creepy at all (but that's me). In fact after the first display I turned to Steve and asked, "Is it just me, or do you have a craving for beef jerky too?". The kids found it interesting, but not scary. Some people might think it a bit macabre, but I thought that they artful way the specimens were displayed showed a great respect for the human body as art as well as science. There was a definate aesthetic to the whole exhibit. We even got to hold a real lung and liver that were treated with the state-of-the-art plastination technique. It was definately the highlight of our day.

I am going to dive back into my trusty box of Kleenex and hopefully, I'll see you guys soon.

New addiction actually. It's a game called BreakQuest.

You remember Breakout right? Or maybe you've played Rebound. This is SO much better. The designers of this game were really thinking outside of the box - literally.

On some levels you hit blocks suspended or connected by strings and the blocks and strings react to the impact of the ball. Occasionally, you can even get them tangled.

Some levels are pretty standard stuff, but the ones with springy, stringy shapes are a lot of fun. There are even a few levels that defy explanation (one has these pac-man like ghost thingies floating about - see, indescribable). It also has a few 'old school" levels where instead of blocks you hit Space Invaders or Asteroids.

Definately try it, it's addicting, and they have LOTS of levels, so boredom doesn't come on so quickly as with some other games.

Are there any Sims 2 enthusiasts out there? I've been trying all weekend to download the patch without success.

I've been in email contact with EA Games and they have been, shall we say, less than helpful. They just told me to "keep trying". That helpful advice was after they said that the game isn't made to be played on a laptop because features tend to be scaled down, like video and sound cards. My laptop has no such problem, it's made to be a desktop replacement. They kept answering my question like it was a performance problem, which it is not. I've just about had it with them.

So....if any of you have the patch for the CD version, do you think you could email it to me? Thanks bunches!

UPDATE: Found it, thanks y'all!

Becca discovered Shrinky Dinks this weekend. I re-discovered them. They are so fun, so.....so......shrinky!!!! And dinky!!

Now, she can't go 12 hours without shrinking a dink. (heh).

I even went to Office Depot yesterday and bought a pack of Sharpies with 11 gazillion colors so we would have a skin color, and something other than black, brown, red, blue, and green. We had a blast coloring them last night and she. CAN'T. WAIT. TO. DO. THEM. AGAIN.

I told her we have to wait until her sister gets home from school. She told me she doesn't like me anymore.

Oh and, that irritibility that comes with the orapred and albuterol, gives me a lovely little peek into puberty. Wheee!

I'm officially calling to order the Starbucks junkie club. I just bought a bottle of Starbucks gingerbread syrup off of eBay and I'm bidding on Pumpkin Spice bottle. I got Monin's gingerbread syrup, but it tastes, I don't know, bitter of all things. Not what I expected, and actually a huge disappointment.

Can't wait till that gingerbread syrup shows up at my door. And I'm not exactly sure how it wound up on eBay, because as far as I know, they don't sell that syrup to the public.

Until it shows up, I'm gonna be jonesin' hard!
